I think everyone with kids knows that evenings can be a little tricky. Kids are tired, hungry and mentally exhausted by the end of the day. To be honest, you probably are too.
We’ve found a fun way to keep the tantrums at bay. Game night! Any night of the week. Who says all the fun has to wait until the weekend?
After we put our one year old to bed, we let the big kid, 5 ½, pick a game to play. Sometimes it’s a card game, sometimes a board game. While he’s picking it out and setting it up, we are able to clean up the kitchen a little bit.
Some of our current favorite card games for this age group are Sleeping Queens, UNO and Go Fish. If you haven’t played Sleeping queens yet, put it on your list. It’s got kings, queens, sleeping potions, dragons, and bonus: it helps with math skills. And of course, UNO and Go Fish are classics for a reason; fun and easy to teach/learn.
For board games, we tend to rotate between two favorites. Chutes and Ladders. Our son picked a superhero themed version with SuperMan, The Hulk, Captain America and more. Outfoxed is another favorite. In this game, everyone works together to solve the mystery of Mrs. Plumpert’s missing pot pie before the wiley fox makes a run for it. It’s a nice change from competing against each other.
What are some of your favorite games? We’re always on the hunt for more. Also, we love Puddletown Games on Fremont! You should check them out! https://www.puddletowngames.com/ or https://www.instagram.com/puddletowngames/ Tell them we sent you! :)
